Boiled down to an essence the title of this blog post is what tonight's Fashion Fights Cancer event was all about. Kahri Anne Kerr, Byron Lars, Whistle & Flute's Yoon Chang & Je-Won Hwang, Lotus Grace's Eric Sweeney & Gregg Pellegrini and Fall's Leong Ong & Phillip Leeming all offered their clothes at deep discounts and donated the money to St Jude Children's Research Hospital. The designers art created dollars which will turn into medicine, research, and technology that has but one goal, to help children fight and beat cancer.
Swarms of towering models posed and paraded in vibrant dresses and blouses, flowing gowns and skirts wheeled around roadsters and sedans as the Audi showroom was transformed into a constantly evolving fashion show. Patrons eyed up their favorites and swept in with credit cards and cash to secure their prizes. It was those dollars that carried the true meaning of the event, those dollars that will turn into weapons against cancer. The few oncologists I have been blessed to know are very passionate and dedicated people. I am no fan of analogies but they do literally go to war against cancer. Tonight's event was for them, to give them ammo and support in what must be an exhausting fight.
Fashion Fights Cancer was such a visual feast, models stood like mannequins in the windows lining Park Avenue, radiating the designers work into the New York City night. Fashion burned brightly as only it can and this time all of that talent, all of that work and the marvelous creations it launches season after season were aimed against something awful and vile. In a great measure it's only fitting, beauty versus ugly, fashion vs cancer, designers versus death.
