The undercurrent is starting

In a period of great homogeneity in the arts, such as we are in right now, there comes a tipping point where the producers of the art begin to become dissatisfied for any number of reasons. When this occurs artists start producing work that is contrary to what is in vogue. At the best artists simply start producing what they see in their heads directly, unfiltered by concerns about marketability or acceptance. Based on conversations with the fashion photography teams I have worked with since October we have reach the tipping point. The collapse of the economic system has resonated within the arts in a way that not a lot of people are discussing. The line of reasoning goes like this, "Well the entire approach didn't work and therefore must be wrong, I might as well do what I want." Art and commerce have always been like two partners who brawl regularly and trust each other with knives clenched behind their backs. So any opportunity to reject the commercial concerns of the business are leapt on in a split second. I predict that 2009 & 2010 will see a strong emergence of new art, new styles of music, writing, and photography. I know that the best production team that I work with is planning on producing a ton of unique and challenging work in the early part of '09. So I will certainly be doing my part.
