Upfront let make sure it is understood that this is a very personal value based system. There is hardly any area where there is wider divergence between individuals than values, so this may not work at all for anybody else but me. If you want to create a unique style that will get you attention look at your purchases using this approach. When you select clothing and accesories, place them in their accepted cultural context. Long black dress = formal evening wear, floral prairie skirt = relaxed country or hippie girl. Then add in pieces or accesories that run opposite or counter to the accepted cultural context. For example with the long black dress a pair of high heeled very fetishy booties with a black patent wide belt and black patent gloves. Or with the skirt add in a tailored white blouse and oxford pumps.
It is important to note that you can not violate any of the, "actual" rules of fashion or people will interpret your attempt as a poor sense of style. By actual rules I mean length, colors that don't work together, fit, and other practical style rules. Once you satisfy the it looks good and it's genuinely me requirements it can be fun to play with expectations.
